KEYNOTES:
The health of the people of Shropshire is generally better than the average for England.
Differences in the percentage of people living in deprived areas between the districts of Shropshire are generally small, and the overall percentage living in the most deprived areas is small.
Over the past ten years death rates from all causes and early death rates from heart disease and stroke and from cancer have fallen in parallel with the average rates for England.
Life expectancy in males and females is higher than the England average.
Death rates from smoking related causes and early death rates from heart disease and stroke and from cancer are all lower than the England average. Rates of hip fracture in those aged over 65 and new cases of tuberculosis are also better than the average for England.
Rates of hospital stays related to alcohol and of drug misuse are lower than the England average.
Rates of injuries and deaths from road accidents are higher in Shropshire than the England average.
Shropshire Primary Care Trust, together with partners, has made a priority of the county wide strategy to reduce injuries and deaths from road accidents.
