The percentage of children eligible for free school meals is highest in the Black ethnic group. No residents of Richmond live in areas classified as being amongst the fifth most deprived areas in England. However, life expectancy is highest in people living in the least deprived parts of the borough.
Over the past ten years, death rates from all causes combined have improved for both sexes, as have rates of early deaths from cancer and from heart disease and stroke. The rate of early death from cancer has remained similar to the England average.
Estimated levels of smoking and binge drinking among adults, and levels of drug misuse and hospital stays for alcohol-related harm are all better in Richmond than the England average.
Compared to the England average, children are more physically active, less obese and have less tooth decay. The teenage pregnancy rate is also lower than average and access to contraception and sexual health services for young people continue to be priorities.
Priorities in Richmond include tackling inequalities, safeguarding children and improving end of life care. Further information is available at www.richmondandtwickenham.nhs.uk
