KEYNOTES:
The health of the people of Broxbourne is similar to or significantly better than the England average. Compared to 2008, statutory homelessness and adult physical activity are no longer worse and teenage conceptions are now better than the England average.
In general, levels of deprivation are low compared to the national average. However, there are pockets of deprivation and Broxbourne hosts the most deprived area in Hertfordshire. Men living in the least deprived parts of Broxbourne can expect to live over 5 years longer than those from the most deprived areas.
Over the past ten years, deaths from all causes and early deaths from cancer have improved and are better than the England average. Early deaths from heart disease and stroke are similar to the England average.
Although improved from the previous year, less than 1 in 10 adults is physically active. Smoking kills around 120 adults per year.
Although better than the England average, almost 1 in 5 adults aged over 65 years reports that their health is not good. The rate of excess deaths during winter is similar to the England average.
Broxbourne's targets are to increase physical activity in children and adults, increase childhood immunisation rates and decrease smoking prevalence.
